Thank you for your interest in Barefoot Bellydance. The dance school is run by Steffi, who, along with fellow tutors Deadre and Cheryl, welcome you to the classes.

The philosophy of the school is that people only exercise regularly when it ceases to become a chore. By keeping the atmosphere light and fun, and by developing friendships and a sense of community, dancers  no longer feel they have to come to class to 'work out' but rather to enjoy themselves.

Although our preferred performance style is Tribal, through the dance classes, we offer many other styles of bellydance.

Our classical classes offer the opportunity to learn choreographies and a broad spectrum of bellydance traditions

If you like to learn Barefoot performance style we offer tribal classes for all levels.

Article from local paper

Tribal Grade 1 Certification Course - Tribal dance uses simple moves, executed with precision, combined with specific styling and posture. We have designed this course to enable the dancer to measure their competence in Level 1 tribal moves as used by Barefoot Bellydance and demonstrated in the Barefoot Level 1 teaching DVD.

We also encourage any student who wishes to perform to become a dancer with Anuket, our student troupe. Anuket is directed by Steffi and Deadre, and performs at local events, such as Fetes and Fundraisers.  Students of all levels from complete beginner upwards are welcome to join. The only criteria is a commitment to come and develop yourself in the dance, and attend rehearsals regularly. If you do join, you will find that your confidence will grow along with your strength, flexibility and skill.

Steffi also directs Barefoot Bellydance who perform with their own live band. Barefoot perform at festivals and events nationwide, and as far as we are aware we are the only bellydance troupe in the UK that perform exclusively to live music created by our Barefoot Band.

If you are not contacted before the start of the class, please assume you have a place. If you require confirmation or a receipt, please enclose a stamped addressed envelope with your registration form.

Barefoot Bellydance reserve the right to cancel any class if there are not sufficient people booked. In case of cancellation, you will be contacted with as much notice as possible, and may choose to transfer to another class of receive a full refund.

No refunds are available if you cancel a reserved place. No places will be reserved without full payment.

Bellydance is practiced in bare feet. Please come in loose comfortable clothing, anything you are happy wearing. If you want to wear a flowing skirt, and have any scarves that can be used to emphasise the size of your hips, then please feel free to bring these, but many beginners feel happiest in leggings and T-shirt. There will be plenty of opportunity to purchase music, props and costumes as you get more confident.

Classes are run in 6 week courses and cost £42 per course. Courses run from September to July. Please ring or email Steffi for information on dates and registration forms.

Classes are popular and spaces are limited. To guarantee a place it is necessary to book and pay in advance. You may turn up and pay on week 1, but if the class is full you will not get a place. We operate a waiting list for oversubscribed classes. You may prefer to take up Barefoot membership at a cost of £35 per month paid by direct debit. This will allow you to attend as many classes as you wish at no extra cost as long as you book your place in advance. Please contact Steffi or ask one of your tutors to take up this option.
