Course Objectives

Tribal dance uses simple moves, executed with precision, combined with specific styling and posture. We have designed this course to enable the dancer to measure their competence in Grade 1 tribal moves as used by Barefoot Bellydance and demonstrated in the Barefoot Grade 1 teaching DVD.

By undertaking grade one study the dancer will have the opportunity to develop their strength and flexibility and gain the competence and confidence to dance within a duet, trio and a larger group.

Course Criteria

1.   To show an awareness of tribal posture and maintain this within the dance.

2.   To recognise and execute all of our Grade 1 moves, showing an understanding of the technique involved with each, e.g. timing, foot placement, arm position, etc.

3.   To show an understanding of the music, how to keep time with basic rhythms and to show understanding go which moves combine with slow music and which with fast.

4.   To show understanding of and ability to dance in duet and how to change leader. Also to show understanding of and ability to dance in group chorus pieces, including how to lead the chorus and how to dance confidently in the centre.

Course Marking

Each dancer will be marked by Steffi and other members of Barefoot who are working with her.

If the necessary dancer criteria are not met, the dancer will be given feedback and the opportunity to work on specific areas.  No dancer will 'fail' as there will not be a time limit as to how long you can take to pass.

You will have to pass Grade 1 before you can move to our Grade 2 classes.  On passing students will be awarded a Barefoot Grade 1 Certificate.
